Badminton hours through mid-January at Shula’s

Dear Shuttlers,

It’s been a long time since our last website update -I apologize. Here is our latest news:

REMEMBER: Badminton resumes it’s regular times on Thursdays (1/7/2016) and Sundays.

This Sunday, January 10, 2016 through Sunday, January 17, 2016, the gym is completely ours for the 2016 Graham-Toms Senior Internationals! Once the courts are set up by Monday evening, January 11, it’s free-play for anyone.

The only catch is you must give FIRST priority to those who are playing in the tournament to use the courts. However, once the matches are completed after each day (usually around 8ish in the evening), you can come in and play on the green courts at no charge until 11PM each night.

Please feel free to take advantage of it, although your assistance on Sunday, the 17th, would be most appreciated in helping us take apart and put away all of the courts and clean up the gym.

Southwest Miami wins GMAC badminton title

A lot of individuals with previous championship experience stood proud on stage at Braddock on Tuesday afternoon during the GMAC badminton tournament.

The team trophy went to someone new, however.

Led by its doubles teams and an outstanding overall effort, Southwest Miami emerged with the county title after doubling the score of all other teams, including runner-up and previous champion Palmetto.

The Eagles won what is believed to be their first GMAC title in over two decades.

Southern Open Badminton Tournament August 31st – September 1st, 2013

Hi Everyone,

The Southern Open is in Florida this year and is being played at ClearOne. This is 1 of 5 USAB Sanctioned Regional Tournaments in the US and covers an 11 state region in the south, from Florida to Texas.

You can sign up now and receive a Southern Open Dry-Fit T-shirt as our THANK YOU! To get this bonus you must sign up and pay prior to August 18th. We are expecting a large draw, as prior Southern Open Tournaments have had as many as 150 entries.

The Southern Open is being played on the Saturday (August 31st) and the Sunday (September 1st) of the Labor Day Weekend (Monday is a holiday). It’s our “warm-up” tournament before the Yonex USA International.

The Yonex USA International Tournament is one of only two BWF sanctioned tournaments that is played in the US. This tournament received a major sponsorhip from Yonex as their committment to the growth of badminton in Florida. This event is being at ClearOne from Nov 6 to Nov 10. Once again we expect a large draw. We were notified a few days ago that 10 members of the Brazilian National Team are coming and we have confirmation that reigning Pan American Champions are also coming.

For now our focus is on the Southern Open. We have a wide variety of events for both novice and experienced players and for those in-between. Note that we have also included Age-Level categories as well as a Unisex Doubles Combined-Age Event (70+, 80+, 90+).
